Back @ York Street May 5th, 2008 ![]() just arrived back in Melbourne after 5 interesting days in NZ. On Friday we played a secret sorta mini show at the Fu Bar in Auckland with Jimmy Christmas’ new band Luger Boa (amongst others) in front of a very packed, pissed and appreciative crowd. No soundcheck, just rocked up, played loud and had a great time. It’s good now people have finally had a chance to hear the new album cause I love it when I see/hear people singing along to these tunes that I’ve had in my head for ages. feels good and gives the songs even more power than before. One Will Hear The Other the highlight for me.On Monday we recorded a live session at York St studios for ZM Live Lounge. We recorded our first 3 albums there so it was a bit like coming home. they still have all the reel to reel tapes of Killjoy and Churn sitting in their tape vault. Thanks to both the York st staff (who were all excellent) and our awesome live crew we were pretty much left to concentrate on the performance itself which is good cause live recording’s always a bit touch and go and frankly quite nerve racking. I gotta say, the room at York st. is still one of the best sounding studios for recording a rock band I’ve come across and it became apparent early on that if we nailed our performance we’d probably come out with some awesome sounding takes which, in knowing, I think made us really concentrate on getting everything down right. at 6pm about 30 competition winners were herded into the studio and then it was on. Everything went good apart from the fact that Phil blew up his amp 2nd song (experience shows that shit like that is bound to happen) but after entertaining the audience with a few well played but shoddily sung metal covers (Black Sabbath, Metallica and AC/DC I think it was) he was back up and running and we plowed ahead.when we finished there was a bit of time to hang out and meet the crowd then it was straight back into mixing which was supposed to finish around midnight but ended up going until 4am when we had to stop and catch a taxi to the airport for our flight back to Melbourne (I’m still awake now from the night before - and in another country!) Listening back to the tunes, it makes me really fucking happy that I’m in this band with such great fuckin’ musicians. they make me sound like I know what I’m doing and, apart from some bum notes from yours truly, the finished mixes sound almost like a finished album. gotta love it.NZ tour announced today.
